Mike's bitch of the week

I always get a kick out of the IT camps as to whose is going to be dying in the future and how each company has each other figured out enough to make a claim in public. After reading RedHat's claims about how they almost got Sun killed off, I have to wonder if some they hired some of M$'s marketing consultants for trying to one up on Sun. What really irks me is that it should all be about choices that everyone can make. I like redhat, I used to run redhat, but I also like a use Solaris as well. I think each have their own market that they can fulfill. Why the fuck does it have to be one or the other?? Quite frankly, if I couldnt run RHEL under an edu license, I couldnt afford it. Im glad Sun opened up solaris, even if the little free software bigots can't cannibalize the code from it. I'm hoping Sun can hold off and come after redhat eventually. They definately have the tools to do it if they could only market it properly. I'm sure price was a limiting factor for many, but now its free. you cant beat free no matter how you look at it. Now if Sun were to open up JES, they could come after both Novell and Redhat. Solid OS, networked management, directory services, the most complete J2EE service for a whopping price of $0. And for $1000 for a RH server, $170 per Rh client, .. anyway, this is my gripe for the day. ps if you really want to run linux, install debian forchrissakes..

The only thing I wish it had that Ill have to find is a way to show music. Anyway a quick review of the background facts. IM currently attending Bloomsburg university studying Computer information science, I only use Linux and UNIX, My tastes in music run from techno to Husker Du and the Disco Biscuits. Currently, Im busy up to my eyeballs in project work as well as playing catch-up. any,
